I'm obsessed with Houndstooth!!!

One of my most favourite patterns of all time is houndstooth.  Why?  I have no idea, but I have always been drawn to houndstooth fabrics.  So I am devoting an entire post to Houndstooth!

I have these 2 incredible chairs I bought a few years ago from Stoney Creek Furniture.  My cat has destroyed them and they are in desperate need of reupholstering.  Right now, they are in my basement because they have no place in the Waterford House.  But, they will be making a comeback in the new Burlington house.  Which means, I get to reupholster them.  Fabric shopping..yeaaaa!

The Chairs!!!
I have always wanted to cover them in a dramtic houndstooth fabric.

If I don't end up using a houndstooth fabric on my chairs, I will definitely incorporate it in other areas of the new house.  Some inspiration....

Built-Ins (Kind of!)

I absolutely love the look of built ins, but I hate the cost that is associated with them!  The family room in my new house could use some nice built ins on either side of the fire place (see pic below!) and I would love to do something wall to wall in the kids new playroom.  But errr, the $$$$.

Would love some built ins on either side of the fireplace.
So, I've been doing some research online to find out how I can cut the cost.  I was amazed at the amount of DIYers out there that tackled, and succeeded, in creating their own semi-built-ins.  Check these out!

This incredible DIY Built In was created by CentsationalGirl.com.  It was made out of Ikea Billy Bookcases.  Awesome.  I would totally do this in my kids playroom.

The floor to ceiling built ins were created with Billy Bookshelves and Billy Height Extensions.  Can you believe the whole project cost just $368.  Created by JustAGirlBlog.com

One of my most favourite is from Mini Manor Blog.  I love how she used didn't depths.  Maybe this shorter style would suit either side of my fireplace.  That'll leave room for some pretty art work...hummmmm

This one featured on Better Home and Gardens cost only $324.  I could totally do this in my laundry/mud room!

As if my Dad's "Honey To Do" list at home wasn't big enough!!  The one at my house keeps getting bigger and bigger!

Interior Doors

Replacing all of your interior doors will cost a fortune, but it has a huge impact in the overall look of a home.  I know I am crazy, but just look at some of these pictures!  New interior doors can take your house to a whole new level.

If replacing all of your doors aren't an option, how about just painting them.... or even just a few here and there!

Or, there is always the option of adding some molding.  In our Waterford house, I have some incredible millwork on each and every door and window.  I am going to sincerely miss it.  So, "door trim" is making the long-term to-do list in the new house!  There are a ton of DIY instructions out there!

Register Covers

Another silly detail that I will obsess over for hours upon hours.
There are hundreds of register covers to choose from.  Why stick with the traditional plastic brown or beige ugly thing.

Faux cast iron from Home Depot.  Just $12.50.  Easy update
Imagine all white register covers in a shabby chic girls room.  Love.

Knobs!!

Now that I had shared all of the pics of the new house, I get to post about some of my most favourite things... Usually under the category, DETAILS.  I love the little details.  To me, a decor project is never finished until every last detail is addressed.

One of my most favourite details in a home are the door knobs.  I replaced all the door knobs on the farm and it cost me a pretty penny.  I wanted all black levers, so I forked over the dough, but it changed the entire look of the house.  I think the new house in Burlington has all gold levers.  Yuck.  Looks like I will have to change all of the knobs once again, because no, I will not paint them.  Here are some of my favourites.

Weiser Ashfield from Home Depot ($50)

Nostalgic Warehouse Dart Crystal ($50-$150)

The Rest of The House

A few pics of the backyard.  It just needs some TLC.  Neighbours aren't gonna like me so much when I put in a new fence and make them fork out half the dough.. muhaaaaaaa.

My Sunroom.  A perfect place to finally put my Brian Gluckstien kijiji find outdoor furniture :)

Well, there is no doubt this house is going to be a lot of work.  In fact, I have a small panic attack every time I look at the pictures, BUT, I am up for the challenge.  Those of you that know me, know that I absolutely love this stuff.  I love making my house a beautiful place to come home to.  This next house is going to be my toughest challenge yet, but I'm in no hurry.  I plan on NEVER moving again... hahahha.

The Master Bedroom

The Master Bedroom in the new house is one of the rooms that made me LOVE this house.  The floors are beautiful and instantly reminded me of our farm (tear, still miss that place).  I love the baseboards and the 2 windows scream 'cover me with beautiful, luxurious drapery'.  The room has two huge closets and an ensuite bath.

When we were traveled to California a million times a few years ago, we always stayed at the Oceana Hotel in Santa Monica.  Still one of most favourite places ever!  I took a ton of pictures of the decor because it was just beautiful.  But of course I can't fins the pics since this is our 10th move and I can't find anything these days.  Anyway, I swipped some pictures from their website and would love to use them as a inspiration for my master bedroom.

Dare I paint my side tables red.  Another project for my new paint sprayer that I have yet to purchase!!!

For my little man..

James's room is awesome!  It has beautiful baseboards and the most amazing wide plank, pine floors.  Why they have pine floors in just one room, I dunno.  But, I don't ask questions when it comes to beautiful details.

I'd like to get to James's room as quick as I get to Grace's.  They are on the top of the priority list.
I have his room planned to a 'T' in my head.  See inspiration shot below!!

Benjamin Moore's BLUE!  I am inlove with this room.  I have an old pine sleigh bed that James used to use.  I'm planning on painting it black and painting the matching side table and tall boy another colour. That's when I plan on investing in my own paint sprayer and building a spray room in my garage!!  Don't tell Ryan.  His room is going to turn out gorgeous.  Can't wait.

For my little princess....

Could it be more perfect?  PINK!  A pink room is making the transition for my little 4 year old princess quite easy!  My girl is happy in any room that is pink or purple.... I plan on taking this room to the next level... Can't wait to go 'princess' bananas in the room.  And, the room is HUGE!!!

The inspiration shot.  Compliments of Pottery Barn.

I have had a vision of Princess Grace's room for a long time, but haven't been settled enough in a house to complete it.  I can't wait.  This is going to be one of my first projects!

stay tuned!....
